How VMAXCHECK measures performance

VMAXCHECK uses M-Lab NDT7 for the primary browser speed test. The browser connects to M-Lab measurement infrastructure, and the heavy test traffic does not pass through VMAXCHECK shared hosting.

What NDT7 measures

NDT7 measures achievable end-to-end TCP performance between your device and a nearby, well-provisioned measurement server. It is not a modem sync rate and it is not a guarantee of the exact physical capacity of your line.

Test phases

Each run has three phases. First the client discovers the nearest suitable M-Lab server. Then download throughput is measured, then upload throughput. Latency comes from NDT measurement data when the server reports it. If a phase cannot complete, the result says so instead of guessing.

How results are interpreted

Download and upload values are normalized separately on a scale from 1 Mbps to 10 Gbps, so gigabit results stay comparable with modest ones. A rating engine combines download, upload and latency into a quality label, use-case ratings and rule-based diagnostics. Diagnostics describe likely causes, never proof of provider fault.

What the test does not measure

The test does not measure jitter, packet loss or loaded latency as separate metrics, and VMAXCHECK does not claim otherwise. Findings about stability come from comparing results across runs and connection types.

Data policy

Clicking CHECK SPEED actively starts the measurement and records your consent for M-Lab to process technical measurement data, including the public IP address used for that measurement, and publish measurement data according to its policies.
