English usage guide
Use DNS records to narrow down a problem
Enter a hostname without https:// or a page path, then select a record type. VMAXCHECK asks the hosting server's resolver. The result represents that resolver's view, which can differ from the cache on your device.
Try it step by step
- Choose A for IPv4, AAAA for IPv6, MX for mail delivery or NS for nameservers.
- Use TXT for published text records and CNAME to investigate an alias.
- After a DNS change, compare the old and new values and note the TTL, which is expressed in seconds.
What the result means
No AAAA record can simply mean a hostname has no published IPv6 address. No MX result does not explain a web outage. A resolving A record confirms an address was returned; it does not confirm that HTTP, TLS or the application works.
Limits of this lookup
Different resolvers can retain different cached answers. The remaining TTL is not a promise that every user will see a change at the same time. This lookup is not a DNSSEC validation report, an authoritative trace or a measurement of your local DNS latency.
